| AGAT Electromechanical Plant JSC is part of the Belarusian State Authority for Military Industry (SAMI), which is responsible for implementing the military-technical policy of the state. The company manufactures the ‘Rubezh’ (Frontier), a barrier system designed for riot control which has subsequently been shown to have been deployed during the demonstrations that have taken place in the wake of the August 9 Presidential election. AGAT therefore bears responsibility for providing support, equipment and technology for police and security forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs which have contributed to serious human rights violations and the repression of civil society following the August 9 elections. |
